At NC State, Susan serves as the Director of the First-Year Writing Program and she also teaches in the Department of English and in the interdisciplinary PhD program in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media. Susan’s research focuses on the uses of technology in teaching writing, especially with second language writers. She is especially interested in the ways that different technologies can facilitate writing, research, and collaboration both in a classroom and at a distance. Her work has appeared in several journals, and she recently co-authored The Wadsworth Guide to Research with Shelley Rodrigo. She is also a co-editor of Rhetorically Rethinking Usability (Hampton Press, forthcoming, also with Shelley Rodrigo) and Strategies for Teaching First-Year Composition (National Council of Teachers of English, 2002). Before joining the faculty at NC State, she was a faculty member in the Maricopa Community College District. She is currently a member of the Conference on College Composition and Communication’s (CCCC) Committee on Best Practices for Online Writing Instruction and co-chair of the CCCC Committee on Second Language Writing.
