Extended Profile

Al Biles is currently completing his 36th year at RIT, where he has migrated to new computing-related academic units as they have emerged. This odyssey has taken him from the School of Computer Science and Technology, to the Graduate Computer Science Department, to the Computer Science Department (where he served as Chair in the early 90’s), to the Information Technology Department (where he was Undergraduate Program Coordinator for 13 years), to the School of Interactive Games and Media (where he currently teaches audio, artificial intelligence and programming courses, among other things). Much of his research has focused on GenJam, his evolutionary computation based real-time improvisation system with which he performs regularly. He also plays jazz trumpet with people when he gets the chance.
