NMC Campus Teacher’s “Buzz” Sessions
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 15, 2006 08:47pm
As part of our effort to create some regularly scheduled events on NMC Campus, we are aiming to launch an informal meetup specifically for teachers already teaching in Second Life, or those who wish to learn from the brave pioneers. Therefore, we will gather every other week on NMC Campus for a “Buzz Session” just to meet and trade ideas, tips, etc.
Look for the first session coming this Monday, 6:00 PM SLT (PST) on NMC Campus… we have set aside a quite “grassy knoll” just beyond the Gonick Ampitheater:

Location map of the first “Buzz” session. Look for the waving flag purchased by Corwin Carrilon!– or find us via a Second Life URL (slurl): http://slurl.com/secondlife/NMC%20Campus/73/54/26/
If you have not yet visited NMC Campus, you will first want to fill out our “Join NMC” web form which provides the directions on how to get access to the campus.
This is a loosely structured group now (or actually very little at all), so the direction, scheduling, topics, structure will emerge from those that decide to drop in… see the basics we have outlined on the NMC Campus wiki.
And don’t worry about food, we will be serving coffee and snacks. For the first session, we will listen to your ideas, and share some cool things we have found or are tinkering with recently in Second Life.
So how about some buzz on Second Life teaching? Join myself, Corwin, and others who decide to drop in,

[...] The end of the summer is always a tough time - lots to do at work, prep for teaching and dusting off that pesky literature review. I have been making a big effort to try to keep up with the SLED list especially since the weekly meetings seem to be on a break (although NMC is going to start a weekly Monday meeting). Recently there was a post about a new group being started with weekly meetings on Tuesday night at 10pm EST - the Synthetic World Initiative at Indiana University. It seems that this group started out of the work/research done by Ted Castronova in World of Warcraft. The group is named the Kuurian Expediton after the original World of Warcraft guild. The group is open to more then just educators - journalists, industry people, etc are involved. It is not clear if this group is open to everyone but more information can be found on their wiki. Looking very forward to it, just couldn’t come yesterday due to storm and 5-hour electrical outage… So count me in for the next meeting.
