Reading List
From NMC Wiki
[edit] About
|
In late December 2006, Ed Gallagher posted a request for reading suggestions on the NMC TAB Listserv:
- I'm working on a subcommittee preparing for university accreditation and trying to think about what's on and even over the horizon in regard to technology and pedagogy. What do you think I should read? Are there a coupla books or articles or reports that jump into mind that you could share? Like, right now I happen to be looking at Oblinger and Oblinger's Educating the Net Generation (Educause 2005). Are there recent works like that or even older classics that you'd recommend to help us look into, plan for, and perhaps even facilitate the future of technology-enhanced learning? I'm doing some "break" reading and would appreciate any suggestions.
And while a lot of great responses came rolling in by email, we hope to use some web tools such as this wiki and LibraryThing to assemble a new resource. This wiki has been set up as a place for those interest to help refine a list, write annotations, etc.
Use this wiki to add ideas, rate, etc
[edit] Library Thing
[edit] [ New in LibraryThing's NMC Reading List] |
Alan Levine set up a LibraryThing group NMC Reading List where people who add readings to their own accounts can aggregate them to a common area-- consider this "raw" material for discovery.
- This was a good excuse to experiment with the incredible site, LibraryThing (http://www.librarything.com/)- which allows you to build, share, and socially network around books. It was incredibly easy to add, tag all the books suggested in today's emails. Just by keyword search, it locates all info about books from Amazon or more than 70 other sources. As you explore books, it provides recommended readings based on the collections of others on the site.
- So here was my 30 minute effort to build a collection: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/cogdog
- And I created a group for "NMC Reading List" for anyone else interested in playing, so if you create a free account on LibraryThing, you can add more books, discuss them, etc. If you join this group, all books in your account are aggregated together http://www.librarything.com/groups/nmcreadinglist
- This is a rather amazing resource that makes it easy to pull together reading lists (content can be syndicated by RSS and other forms) much more easily than manually editing web pages. LibraryThing is rather amazing -- for something really wild, try the "UnSuggester" (http://www.librarything.com/unsuggester)
[edit] The List
For starters, we will set up some headings for those who are interested to start adding recommendations. Please include title, a description, and URL for any reference. Use wiki formatting-- the asterisk makes it a bulleted list item, and the three single quotes make text bold. Note that everything must be in a single paragraph with only a single carriage return at the end.
We'll need help too on writing our own summaries.
* '''Book Title''' a sentence or two of description as well as LibraryThing URL (if available) for link http://www.librarything.com/work/185593
Eventually we can create some annotation for ranking these
