NMC Events

Mark your calendars now for the NMC 2009 Summer Conference to be held in Monterey Bay, CA.

This Symposium will be the 12th in the NMC's Series of Online Symposia and will be held November 4-6, 2008 online.

The 2008 Third Annual Pachyderm Conference will be held September 22-24, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas.

This event, the eleventh in the NMC Series of Online Symposia, will be held April 1 - 3, 2008 online.

The 2008 NMC Directors' Meeting will be held March 12 - 13. 2008, in Austin, Texas, and will include a NMC Business Meeting and focused discussions.

This August, NMC will host a one-of-a-kind event: a week-long online symposium on the topic of creativity, held entirely inside the virtual world of Second Life.

The 2008 NMC Summer Conference will be hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. Watch the video invitation!

The 2006 NMC Directors' Meeting was held February 23 - 24, 2006, in Austin, Texas. This year, the event was at the Capitol Place Hotel (formerly Crowne Plaza). Our task was to conduct a business meeting, strengthen connections between NMC campus liaisons and institutions, spend time thinking about how to maximize the benefits of the NMC, and learn from each other. We focused our discussions Friday around three themes: Maximizing Campus Impact; the 2006 Horizon Report; and New Media Literacy and Learning.

At the leading edge of a wave that will last for the next several years and beyond, personal broadcasting, which uses informally produced personal audio and video content as a form of personal expression and as a means of information delivery, is rapidly expanding into academe as small, easy-to-use devices increasingly allow people to capture and share personal experiences, information, and events.

From podcasting to video blogging (vlogging), personal broadcasting has clearly begun to impact campuses and museum audiences significantly. With roots in text-based media (personal websites and blogs), personal broadcasting of audio and video material is a natural outgrowth of a popular trend made possible by increasingly more capable portable tools.
