Michaele Brown is a course developer and project manager with the Open Learning Initiative of Carnegie Mellon University. Michaele is passionate about creative uses of technologies to design and implement goal-based learning experiences that simulate real-life situations. With extensive experience in higher education and the financial services industry, Michaele has a track record of planning new learning strategies and revamping existing plans to improve performance and problem-solving capabilities using technology-based learning solutions. She has designed and managed development of learning programs for delivery face-to-face, synchronously, asynchronously, and online blended with classroom instruction. She has taught in both higher education and corporate training programs. Michaele strives to design learning environments that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, knowledge construction, and respect for diverse perspectives. She earned her Ph. D. from New York University and performed faculty development and support for the Distance Learning Department at NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies where she excelled at cultivating partnerships, developing consensus, and facilitating buy-in for new tools, technologies, and procedures. Michaele’s research focuses on measuring learning effectiveness with authentic assessments represented by real-world outcomes such as well-reasoned decisions, new products, and solutions to problems.
