"Storytelling in Virtual Environments" in SL - New speaker added!

As announced here before, on Saturday May 17 at 10 AM PDT the Center for Digital Storytelling (CDS) is proposing a reflection on storytelling in virtual environments in the form of a panel in Second Life. This will be part of the celebration of the International Day for Sharing Life Stories which will have happened the day before, May 16.

We added one person to our excellent line-up of speakers: Dale Jarvis, storyteller, folklorist and performer will be in-world - and in Canada in RL. Other speakers logging in from Spain, China, New Zealand and the US, and covering areas from multimedia journalism to virtual performance.

Joe Lambert (Director, Center for Digital Storytelling) and Ana Boa-Ventura (PhD Candidate, University of Texas at Austin) will be moderating.

Come join us!

Not Since the Great Depression: The Post Katrina Documentary Impulse and New Media

Michael Mizell-Nelson, 2007 New Orleans Regional NMC Conference at Tulane

Michael Mizell-Nelson photoAssembling content for an online database project regarding hurricanes Katrina and Rita provides daily opportunities to assess personal and community losses throughout the Gulf Coast. It also puts one into contact with the vast array of documentation efforts flourishing along the coast, particularly New Orleans, which serves as this catastrophe’s “Ground Zero.” Each individual’s story constitutes one invaluable piece in the immense debris field stretching from Texas to Alabama. New Media drives the documentation of the tragedies and ongoing recoveries; similarly, New Media must assist in making these invaluable materials accessible to both web surfers and scholars.

50 Web 2.0 Ways to Tell a Story

This audio narrated Slidecast was for my presentation at the 2007 NMC New Orleans Regional Conference at Tulane. The audio was recorded at the session and the slideshow assembled later and published via SlideShare (which is, tool number 42!)

Aint Done Nothin (New Orleans)

Following the NMC Regional Conference in Tulane, our hosts from Tulane provide a trip around the city on Friday afternoon that was quite profound.

Enough that I made a little digital story of some photos we took while driving around.
