The NMC began conducting country-specific research in 2008, with the publication of the first NMC Horizon Report: Australia-New Zealand Edition, with subsequent annual editions in 2009 and 2010. A Spanish language edition targeting Iberoamericana was first published in 2010.
In 2011, the NMC expanded its research to specifically target regions around the world with a new series of analyses called the Technology Outlook. The series is the newest member of the NMC Horizon Project family of publications, and is aimed specifically at understanding both local and global differences in technology uptake as well as the current and future state of education in different parts of the world. The first report in the series featured an in-depth look at teaching, learning, research, and information management within tertiary education in the UK. The NMC also has plans to launch Technology Outlooks for Singapore and the surrounding region, as well as Africa, in 2012. Additional reports are also planned for Latin America, Central Europe, and India.
