NMC Horizon Project

The NMC Horizon Project charts the landscape of emerging technologies for teaching, learning, and research, creative inquiry. Launched in 2002, it epitomizes the mission of the NMC to help educators and thought leaders across the world build upon the innovation happening at their institutions by providing them with expert research and analysis.

Open

Much of the work of the NMC Horizon Project takes place in a wiki where international experts across all different educational sectors openly exchange ideas and engage in insightful discourse. In this sense, the NMC Horizon Project represents a new ideal in education: free, open forums that facilitate global collaboration and encourage smarter discovery and dissemination of emerging learning approaches. All NMC Horizon Project reports and papers are published as open content, under a Creative Commons Attribution License, so permission is granted to replicate, copy, distribute, transmit, or adapt the content freely.

Collaborative

Within the scope of the NMC Horizon Project, the NMC has held an ongoing series of conversations with hundreds of technology professionals, campus technologists, faculty leaders from colleges and universities, and representatives of leading corporations to explore and forecast the impact of emerging technologies across all learning sectors. These conversations continue to inform the most visible and world-renowned outcome of the NMC Horizon Project — the NMC Horizon Report series

Research-Intensive
For each edition of the NMC Horizon Report, an advisory board considers the results of these dialogs and looks at a wide range of articles, research, papers, project examples, and websites to generate a list of technologies, trends, and challenges that knowledgeable people in technology industries, higher education, K-12, and museums across the globe are traversing. The articles, papers, and projects included as in-practice examples and further readings in the NMC Horizon Report series are published to our highly searchable, extensive global, social research database — the NMC Horizon Project Navigator

Global
The most recent addition to the NMC Horizon Project is a new series of region-specific reports called NMC Technology Outlooks. These publications focus on the future landscape of learning in particular regions and are a product of collaborations between the NMC and innovative organizations across the world that seek to leverage the well-known medium of the NMC Horizon Report to bring important research, trends, and challenges in their regions to light. The new series furthers the NMC's goal of driving innovation in every part of the world.
