The 2005 NMC Directors' Meeting was held March 3 - 4, 2005, in
Austin, Texas. The event took place at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel on the shores of beautiful Town
Lake. Like other Directors' Meetings, the gathering was intended specifically for NMC Directors,
campus technology champions, and other campus leaders.
This year's theme was “Maximizing Campus Impact: Lessons
from the Trenches.”
This year, we planned something new for the gathering that we hope
will start a new tradition at these meetings. Our discussions and
dialogs were captured and will be used to produce an NMC
white paper, with the same title as our theme — “Maximizing
Campus Impact: Lessons from the Trenches.”
Participants at the Director’s meeting will determine the
focus and content of this piece, and will be credited by name in
the publication. Stories
and vignettes from those present at the meeting were captured and willl be included in the monograph. Rachel Smith, author of last
year’s Guidelines for Authors of Learning Objects, will lead
the writing effort, and we’ll plan to release the paper in the fall, after continued discussions at this year's Summer Conference in June.
The business meeting focused on the recent retreat held by the
NMC’s Board of Directors that focused on the NMC’s next
five years. The meeting kicked off Thursday, March 3 with a reception and dinner
beginning at 6 pm., and continued through Friday, March 4, with an
all-day program of presentations and discussions directly related
to the theme of “Maximizing Campus Impact,” wrapping
up at 5 pm.
