Session Description
This session will discuss NOAA's experimentation into using Second Life to display Earth data in similar fashion to Google Earth, Microsoft Visual Earth, or NASA Whirlwind. However, the advantage of using Second Life is it is massively multi-player allowing remote collaboration and participation of a dataset. The future of collaborative geographic information systems (GIS) is still unfolding, however, a few ideas will be discussed including NOAA's budding "Second Earth" project.
We will also discuss how mashups work in Second Life including examples of accessing Yahoo weather data and the capabilities of the Info Fez.
