The NMC Summer Conference returns to Monterey Bay, where it was hosted in 2001. Much has changed since then! Since its founding in 1993, the NMC’s mission has been to explore and promote innovative applications of technology to teaching, learning, and creative expression. Our history parallels the emergence of multimedia, the Internet, the world wide web, online video, Web 2.0, and now we are poised at the frontier of the 3D web. The NMC has been a part of all of these developments, and our member institutions have become well-recognized as innovative leaders in the creative application of technology to teaching, learning, and creative expression.
Working together with our hosts at California State University Monterey Bay, we have put together a most exciting and comprehensive program. Our opening keynote speaker, Kathy Sierra, is known world wide for her refreshing insights on creating engaging user experiences. For our Friday keynote, veteran educator and media guru Marco Torres will share his insights on using new media for powerful expression by youths. And at our closing session, the NMC pays its highest recognition by awarding the NMC Fellow Award to Doug Engelbart, who will be present for our own tribute to one of the most visionary persons in the history of our field.
We will again pause to honor member organizations with the Center of Excellence Award, the NMC’s organizational honor, and recognition of extraordinary accomplishment in our field. And as always, we will get a rapid-fire snapshot of what members are doing at the renowned Five Minutes of Fame! Other special features are being planned plus a wide range of special sessions and activities promise to make this year’s NMC Summer Conference truly memorable.
As NMC Summer Conference tradition, at the close of the 2008 Summer Conference at Princeton, John Ittelson and Arlene Krebs from CSU Monterey Bay provided a video overview and glorious sunset embossed invitation to entice people to come west for the 2009 NMC Summer Conference.
